How to Become a Christian?
A Christian is a follower, a disciple, of Christ. For "the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch" (Acts 11:26). Listen to what Jesus said about being a disciple, a Christian. Jesus said, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed" (John 8:31).
Jesus said,
(1) “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live” (Jn 11:25). “if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (Jn 8:24). He said, “before Abraham was, I AM” (Jn 8:58).
(2) “[W]hoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven” (Mt 10:32).
(3) “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance” (Lk 5:32). "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish" (Lk 13:3, 5).
(4) “He who believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mk 16:16). “After going, make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you” (Mt 28:19-20),
Remember that Jesus also said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven” (Mt 7:21). “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me” (Jn 14:21). “[A]ll will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (Jn 13:35).
Jesus gave His words to His Apostles (John 15:20, 17:8). Christ sent His Spirit to guide His Apostles unto all truth (John 14:26, 16:12-13). Jesus' disciples were added to the Church of Christ by baptism (Acts 2:38, 41, 47) and "they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers" (Acts 2:42). Jesus' disciples are saved by His Gospel (Rom. 1:16), which is the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4). Jesus' disciples obeyed the Gospel by dying to their sins, being buried in baptism, and being resurrected unto a new life (Rom. 6:3-7). Jesus said, "And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple" (Luke 14:27).
